So you thought that good skin care was as simple as cleanse, tone, and moisturise? Nuh-uh, beauties – there’s a lot more to caring for your skin than that simple (yet effective) three-step process.  Confused? We’re talking about breaking those bad skin care habits of yours so that your skin care products can actually do their job (and your skin can be as clean, beautiful, and healthy as possible!).

Here are some of the worst-offending bad skin habits that you can kick to the curb (we promise, they’re super-easy!)…

Going to bed without washing off your make-up
Not sure why this is one of beauty’s biggest no-nos? Make-up and dirt clog your pores while you sleep, which leads to breakouts and acne. Not really a good look for anyone, so save yourself the frustration and take the two minutes to cleanse your skin.

Popping your pimples
We know it’s tempting to want to squeeze that sucker that’s taken over your face, but resist the urge. When you pop a pimple, you push and spread the bacteria into the follicles, which can lead to some pretty nasty infections (and not to mention scars).

Overexfoliating
Exfoliating your skin once or twice a week is great – it cleans out your pores, sloughs off the dead skin cells, and leaves you feeling fresh and clean. But exfoliating too much can actually increase the oil production, leading to more acne and breakouts.

Using dirty make-up brushes
Get into the habit of regularly washing your make-up brushes, (think once or twice a month) because a dirty brush can lead to clogged pores, infections, and breakouts.

Eating junk food
Sure, it may be a myth that chocolate gives you pimples, but it’s been found that those who eat processed carbs (which cause your blood sugar to rise and in turn stimulate oil-producing hormones) break out more.
