If you suffer dry skin, your mantra should be ‘moisturise, moisturise, moisturise’! And as this article explains, the older our skin gets, the drier it becomes, so if you haven’t started to moisturise like crazy now, get to it and banish that dry skin away!

HAVE you noticed your skin getting drier as the years progress? A few small changes to your routine and you could start to enjoy well moisturised skin for years to come.

It’s no mystery that your skin feels a lot drier when you’re 50 than when you were a teenager. “As you get older, skin tends to dry out because the sebaceous glands that produce the oil work less well when you’re 50 than when you’re 15,” says Dr Stephen Shumack, spokesperson for the Australasian College of Dermatologists.

The good news is, that unlike many other symptoms of ageing, dry skin is very simple to counteract.
Instead of abusing our skins by having 20-minute hot showers, Dr Shumack advocates quick, cool showers, limiting the amount of soap you use, and always moisturising. “The important thing about a moisturiser is quantity rather than quality, so you need to put lots on. Somebody who is dry all over needs
to be going through 200g to 300g of moisturiser per week. If you have dry hands, you should be applying moisturiser after every time you wash them.”
