3 ways to age-proof your hands

While most of us are covering them up with gloves and mittens in this cold winter weather (does anyone above the age of 5 wear mittens?), our hands can still cop a fair beating in winter. Here’s 3 useful tips to help keep them fresh and youthful!

PIGMENTATION, dry skin and loss of elasticity show up on the hands just like the rest of the body. That’s because hands are so exposed and don’t have much fatty tissue to shield them. Here, OPI nail expert Karon McKendrick-Taylor reveals her tips to keep hands looking young.

HYDRATE
Karon recommends having two hand creams in your beauty bag – ‘One to repair the skin and one that contains sunscreen to shield against UV rays.’ Look for anti-ageing ingredients – such as vitamins A, C and E, and shea and cocoa butters – to boost moisture and keep hands glowing. And always apply late
at night so it’s well absorbed and doesn’t rub off.

TREAT
Rub in cuticle oil before applying hand cream to keep cuticles and nails soft. Karon also suggests using
a base coat to prevent nails staining. ‘Otherwise, nails will just absorb the pigment from the nail colour,’ she explains.

ADD COLOUR
Not sure which shade to go for? ‘Look at your skin tone,’ Karon says. Blue and pink-based shades suit pale skin, while darker skin looks best with peach and orange colours.

Hot for winter are nudes – beige, tan, honey, chocolate and grey – which give a chic natural look, and blinged-out gold, silver and bronze.
