Right skin, right moisturiser

Looking at my moisturiser the other day, and musing I should stock up on more got me thinking. Was it the right one for my skin? What kind of skin do I actually have? And why hadn’t I thought of this before?! Certainly buying a good moisturiser is easy (*biased plug here* just head to the QV section at your local pharmacy!), but it does pay to understand your skin and what it needs. Here’s a simple how-to from body+soul. My skin thanks you!

BEFORE you choose a moisturiser, you need to establish your skin type: is it dry, oily or combination? Here’s an easy test.
Wash your face with a mild cleanser, rinse with warm water, pat dry and leave for 15 minutes. It’s normal
for skin to feel a little tight for the first few minutes while it produces sebum to recoat the skin.
* You have dry skin if … after 15 minutes skin is still tight. Use a dry-skin moisturiser.
* You have oily skin if … after 15 minutes you can feel oil on your fingers after you touch your nose.
Oily skin doesn’t usually need moisturiser, only sun protection.
* You have combination skin if … Skin feels oily down the centre of your face but the rest is normal.
Apply light moisturiser only where you need it.
