GUEST BLOGGER: Crazy skincare regime for the troubled skin

Ola everyone! It is almost mid-year, how time flies.
As April shades into May, the weather turns scorching hot and humid in Singapore. I log in to Twitter and Plurk only to see a host of complaints from my Singaporeans friends about how the heat is affecting them.
This heatwave also means that it is tougher to take care of one’s skin. Some friends said that acne and pimples have popped up on their faces due to the humidity. For me, my skin feels terribly dry even with regular moisturising.
I am no beauty guru, but after my trip to Korea where 99.9% of the Korean ladies have naturally flawless skin, I decided to step up on my skincare regime. Here is what I have been using thus far.
1) Basic set: from left to right, cleanser, toner, AHA solution, acne and prevention cream, skin renewal cream, QV moisturising day cream.
Through the many years of troubled skin, nothing works long-term for me except these. Some years ago,
a friend recommended a General Practitioner who only sees people for skin issues and the rest is history. It is said that the doctor did research and mixed his formula with a brand called “Therapeutic Dermalogic Formula” [readily available in hospitals].
I was using the doctor’s sunblock but changed to the QV brand when I saw it retailing in Australia
last Spring.
2) Exfoliators
I saw the need for exfoliators as the amount of comedones increased on my face. “Ginvera Green Tea Marvel Gel” leaves my skin smooth and refined. “Cure Natural Aqua Gel” is Japan’s best-selling exfoliant, with a claim that 1 bottle is being sold every 20 seconds! Many of my girlfriends have it, and I have not heard a negative comment about it so far. Both ‘Cure’ and the ‘Marvel Gel’ work the same way. Apply onto dry palms and massage it into the skin until it turns into lumps of particles [supposedly your dead skin],
then wash it off when warm water.
3) Eye care
With dark eyerings as bad as mine, something has got to be done! Apparently the capillaries around my eyes broke due to my sinus problem [I was blowing my nose every morning for years]. This is not curable
by eye creams but still I make it a habit to dab on any eye cream with Q10 to moisturise the sensitive skin around my eyes. “Derma intensive eye cream” is sold only in Australia [and Europe, I think], and it is only through a friend that I managed to get hold of it! I love the lightweight cream and how easily it gets absorbed into my skin.
4) Add-ons
Ermm.. Ok, I can be quite a beauty junkie. If I see something that promises awesome results, I get easily convinced to get it. Over here, the “Bio-essence Radiant Youth Essence” promises radiant skin free of radicals in 7 days. It feels oily when I first pat it onto my skin, but is easily absorbed and gives the skin
a smooth feel.
“Vichy Normaderm Tri-Activ Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care” is a gift from the kind people of Vichy when
I went for their workshop one recent night. It is a new product which targets blemishes, enlarged pores
and oily skin, and purifies, mattifies and hydrates the skin. I am very excited about trying this!
“Heal cream” is a night cream that comes along with the basic set (1).
I got “Beauty Bay Placenta Cream” in Melbourne as people around me raved about the usefulness of placenta. I use this only on my neck and shoulders as the skin there is specially parched and requires intensive moisturising.
5) Facial masks
Starmist went to Korea and bought hundreds of facial masks back. True story. The masks were soooo cheap I couldn’t resist. I have been faithfully using them back home and my skin feels more plumped up and moisturised. Yes!
Oops, “Kose Exfoliating Massage Gel” should fall under the exfoliators’ section. I keep thinking it works
as a mask as it goes on black, like a mask, and you wash it off after a couple of minutes. The results are almost instantaneous; my skin-tone brightens upon one-time usage.
6) Body care
“QV wash” is the only body wash I use ever since I discovered it. It soothes my skin and I like how gentle
it feels on my skin. When any of my friends complains about their skin being dry, I will recommend
“QV cream” without any hesitation. Much as it seems too rich, it works perfectly for parched skin like
mine. <3!
With love,
starmist
