Happy St. Valentine’s Day, dear readers. For those with partners, I hope you guys had a great time spending it with each other. For those who are single, I hope you had a fabulous time out with your friends!
So. In my last post, I wrote about how Omega3 the supplement helped with my skin condition. It is, however, not a cure and should never be viewed as one.
Despite taking Omega3, my skin burns and becomes all prickly and itchy when I go out in the blazing sun [which is not uncommon in this Little Red Dot near the equator]. The sun, heat and humid air are my nemeses. Imagine this, I used to play hockey in college! I loved going to the beach to tan! It has never occurred to me that there will come a day when I avoid the sun like a vampire.
Here is the strange thing. When I first come to know about atopic dermatitis, a quick search on the World Wide Web turned up a lot of results about people suffering from eczema when the weather gets too cold. It is the other end of the spectrum for me; a flare-up usually occurs when I get too hot. Over the years before Omega3 came into the picture, my condition regressed. The more I tried to control the flare-ups [by staying indoors, by not exerting myself too much so as to keep the metabolism level stable, by keeping cool with air-conditioning], the worse my tolerance level for humidity and heat became.
Now, where am I going with this? Having eczema was the start of the butterfly effect. In this whole ‘mess’, I was slowly but surely putting on weight. ["Ahh..." goes all the female readers.] I tried, I really tried. But one session of gym can land me in a state of Unbearable Agony of Being for 2 weeks. Brisk walking for 25 minutes means 3 – 4 nights of itchy sleeplessness. Let’s not get me started on the insomnia.
So I stopped exercising. And gained, what, 7 kgs?
Came October last year, for some reason I cannot remember, I hesitantly took to swimming again. There was an initial flare-up of the eczema on my neck which did not stay for too long. 4 months later today, guess what? I am still swimming, and healthier for it! Finally, I found a mode of exercise that will not result in nightly agony and tears. I feel stronger. Heck, I feel liberated! Happiness!
Now, to work towards a 5-kg loss…
What worked, or did not work for you readers?
With love,
