How to prepare for your spray tan

At QVHQ we are all girls who like to have a bit of colour. We are the biggest fans of spray tans, self tans, gradual build up tanners basically anything that will give us colour without going out in the sun! As Spring Carnival is now in full swing in Melbourne – although you wouldn’t know it based on todays weather! – We thought it was a timely reminder to remember the top skin tips on prepping your skin before you get a tan! We also have to recommend QV Cream as an effective aftercare product. The thick cream keeps your skin hydrated and soft so your tan stays for longer.
We frequently get asked how to prepare for a spray tan and the answer is simple, you don’t need to scrub your self for 2 weeks with expensive products as long as you follow these simple steps you’ll get the most out of your tan.
Step 1 (12-48 Hours Before Your Tan)
Shave or wax and exfoliate a minimum of 12-48 hours before your tan.
Cleanse and exfoliate your entire body trying to eliminate the top layers of dry and dead skin & pay close attention to rough skin areas like knees, elbows, ankles, heels and the tops of your feet.
FACT - Spray tan solution adheres to dead skin cells so built up areas will activate stronger and appear darker.
Step 2 (The Day Of Your Tan)
If your planning on having your tan applied in the evening try and wear the minimum amount of beauty products throughout the day.
Keep your skin as bare as possible by only using a light spray of deodorant, if you have to wear make up try and steer away from liquid foundations & avoid using moisturisers if possible.
Have a light shower to remove any beauty product residue at least half an hour before your tan using no products what so ever, no body wash, no soap, no shampoo and don’t moisturise before your tan
FACT - All body products can act as a barrier and prevent the solution from contacting the skin and may result in an uneven colour.
Loose dark clothing is ideal so you should dress down.Wearing loose clothing and footwear after your tanning session will reduce the risk of clothes rubbing away the colour guide before the tan has had time to fully develop.
Happy Tanning!
